Stephanie Says… Help! To Switch or not to Switch!
Happy Friday Everyone!
So this post isn’t my typical post…. I have a dilemma and need your help! It is about my nails. I don’t know if I should switch nail shops. Since I have a great nail community that follows my blog I figured why not ask you guys! So your feedback on this blog is greatly appreciated.
So here is the back-story…
I have been going to the same nail salon to the same girl for years! I have never lost a nail with her. She does a great job and I know my nails will stay on when she does them. I have very oily nail beds so the acrylic nails would pop off within a week. Anywhere I went, nails would be popping off left and right until I met the girl I go to now.
There are a few issues with my nail girl though:
- Price- a normal fill with no nail color what so ever is $40. Want to have 1 solid color on them $50. Want a French? That is $60. So her prices are on the expensive side, without a doubt. My nails are 100% gel. They don’t use powder of any sort. They are just gel, which I love!
- Time- My nail girl doesn’t use any machines. She does everything with a nail file. So it will take over an hour to get a fill done.
- Design- They do not do designs. You either get a solid color or you get a French. They have no designs on nails what so ever.
Other than those three things, I enjoy going there and I know she does a really great job.
*like i said, its been over a month so excuse the “ghettoness” of my nails*
Now, the place I’m debating on switching too. I have never been there before. I see a few Facebook friends that have been there but I’m not close enough to them to be like “hey how is the nail place you go to?” They do not have a website with prices so I don’t know how much a fill is but I know a fill would be cheaper than $60. So here are my concerns:
- How much would be a gel fill?
- Will they be the same quality as my girl now? Will I need to go back to my place within 2 weeks because they messed up?
The one thing that has drawn me to this new place is they do really cool designs. Something I haven’t had on my nails since high school (so 7 years ago). I see all the cool designs people have on their nails and I feel like mine are so boring 😦 womp womp.
PLEASE help me decide if I should stick with my girl now or if I should try the new place! I am dying to get my nails done. I haven’t had a fill in over a month and my nails are super long (for me). Because of this debate I haven’t made an appointment yet! Please Please Please Help!!

My advice would be to either get in contact with the new place and ask if they use drills, what their prices are, and whether they offer hard gel Nails as well as acrylic, etc. Or if you can’t contact them, maybe go and try it once, but keep an eye on what they’re doing. So, say they’re about to use a drill, you can ask them not to. If they’re stubborn or difficult about it, you could always leave with them unfinished, and get your normal tech to remove or finish them as she sees appropriate. Just explain to her that you couldn’t afford to go to her this time around, so tried that place out instead. I’m sure she’ll understand. she’s a professional, and at least then you’ll know, for better or for worse. Otherwise the “what ifs” will eat away at you every time you pay your regular tech.
Alternatively, they may even offer just art on existing extensions at the new place, so you could have the best of both worlds.
The only other thing I could think of is learning to do your own art, but that’s more of a long term plan than a short term solution 😀
Unfortunately, I can’t help with the prices since I’m in the UK, but I hope the rest was helpful.

Well because you have had the issues with the nails coming off after a week to me doing them weekly would cost even more. Since this is a new place though I’d say give them a shot. Go in talk to them if you don’t like what they offer I’d go back to the other chick. If they do offer what you want try it out if it comes off after a week like what you have experienced before then your girl may be your best bet. I’ve never been to a nail salon I do all my own nails including my own gels so I’m not sure how all that works or the price range.
I say to go try out and give the new nail place a shot. You can go inside and ask about prices and talk to them to get a feel for the place too.
