Striping: Simple Plaid Mani

Disclaimer: Some of the items used were sent to me for honest review.

One of my New Years Resolution is to practise those techniques that scare me when it comes to nail art and striping it very much one of them!

I started with a base of Nails Inc Bloomsbury Way – I only needed two coats, it is a really nice neutral creamy polish with pink tones. I then added vertical stripes in Nails Inc Eagle Street and then horizontal stripes in Eagle Street and Essie Smooth Sailing. To finish off the design I used some topcoat and a little bow from the nail wheel that BornPrettyStore sent me to review (you might remember it from THIS POST).

I actually used the striping brush from the brush collection I have been using for my freehand designs and compared to other striping brushes I have used I did find these were firm and straight enough to give me really good lines. I still need a bit of practise! I followed the advice that Deborah Lippmann once gave of rolling the nail rather than moving the brush and this really does work to keep from having wonky lines!

I can’t wait to do a bright version of this design for the spring and perhaps when I improve a little, more complex plaid designs! You can find the brushes HERE and the bows HERE. Don’t forget you can use my code XPG10 at the check out for 10% off!

What do you think of this design? Have you got any striping tips for me? Let me know with a comment below! What’s your New Years Resolution?

Pretty! I love how delicate that tiny bow is. 🙂 One of the tips I heard when I started with striping was to move your nail instead of the brush. It can help with keeping lines clean. No resolutions for me but I really like yours! Can’t wait to see what you do in the new year.
