Disclaimer: Water decals were sent to me for honest review by Born Pretty Store.
Today we have Mummy Smith’s nails on the blog – I am not sure if I have mentioned but every Saturday night I do her nails for the week. This week I went all out with my decor and think the design came together well in this retro floral combo. Mum doesn’t like me filing her nails and is very hard on her hands (I don’t do washing up… I know… I know… I am an awful 25 year old) so I didn’t fuss her and just got on with decorating. It does remind me though that not everyone is obsessed with the latest cuticle oil, constant crystal filing etc and also of a very important point: YOUR nails, YOUR rules. So as awful as we find the “do you really need more polish?” questions I am sure non-nail girls don’t appreciate the “your cuticles really need some moisturising”. I see negative comments about nail shapes and styles all the time but at the end of the day it is that persons hands and therefore their business. I don’t know, I just want to encourage the positivity in our community and not the negativity. Encourage, support, love. I have to say I have some of the best nail friends ever – it’s ok to be jealous 😉
Lots of elements going on here but really this manicure started with the decals. Mum loves water decals because they wear so well on her nails and I have had these sat in my drawers waiting to be reviewed for a little while. I really loved the colours in them and tried to find a complementary shade – I picked out OPI Casino Royal which is a stunning wine colour from the Skyfall collection not that long ago.
I cut out rectangles of the design, removed the plastic covering and soaked them in water for about 30 seconds and applied them over the top of Barrym White. I cut off any excess and then used nail polish remover to tidy up the edges then topcoated in place. As with the last decals I tried from BPS these were really easy to use and manipulate on the nails – not too thick or thin, nice colouring and easy to tidy up. The decals can be found HERE and don’t forget you can use XPG10 for 10% off of full price items.
On the other nails I stamped dots from MoYou Pro XL 01 in Konad White and this flourish design from Pro 03. I wanted to tie the darker nails to the lightness of the floral. There is something really retro and fun about these and Mum was really pleased.
