A lovely guest post for you today from Georgie who helped me to start PMP way back in 2013. You can check out her fabulous foodie blog HERE.
I am a self-confessed instagram addict. The entirely visual nature of the app appeals to me on so many levels, and I have definitely built up the ‘scrolling’ muscles in my right thumb after many hours of browsing. Perhaps it’s the escapism of insight into other peoples lives, or perhaps it’s the joy at seeing someone has liked your photograph – I have fallen deeply, Nashville’d in love.
So here is my top picks of foodie instagram accounts for your following pleasure:
BEST FOR DOWN TO EARTH RECIPES, FRITTATAS AND BROGUE PORN
Elly Curshen owns Pear Café in Bristol, a cosy lunch deli full of delicious, fresh produce and a ‘Frittata of the Day’. I’ve never even been to Bristol, but I love seeing Elly’s posts from her café and at home too. She follows the 5:2 diet and posts her ideas for meals on fast days (#fastdayideas), and is an advocate for excellent footwear – most notably her love for @enbrogue.
BEST FOR GORGEOUS, COLOURFUL AND INNOVATIVE FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY
Give me an account named The Food Gays and I’m going to automatically love it. Run by Jeremy and Aidan in Vancouver, their account is an homage to excellent food photography and fresh, vibrant dishes. They are also contributing editors to The Feed Feed (also worth checking out @thefeedfeed). This is food photography at it’s best – it’s art.
BEST FOR FITSPORATION
This one is a joint title, because they both represent such difference aspects of fitness and are both equally enviable.
The Skinny Bitch Collective – that’s not the best name in the word, it’s evocative. But I secretly love it. Who wouldn’t want to be part of this club? I love that it focuses on female wellness, and promotes the power of sisters working together! Their account is incredibly stylish – think Vice meets fitness.
This account is just insane. I love yoga. My favourite thing is to spend my Friday night doing two hours of Hatha yoga and then snuggling up for meditation at the end. It transforms me. But Yogo Girls are on another level! I will stare for hours thinking “how does your body do those things?”. It makes me want to get up off my arse and WORK. HARD.
BEST FOR HEALTHY EATING
Choosing this one was difficult, there are so many healthy eating/vegan/raw accounts that I love. But Plantbased Pixie scooped the title – I think it’s the pancakes! 22 year old Pixie is from the UK but is now living in Australia, and I find her account full of colour and inspiration. I get so many ideas for meals from her posts and she always reinvigorates my love for wonderful fruits and vegetables. She calls herself a wellness rebel – I love it, we should all be wellness warriors!
BEST NICHE ACCOUNT
I discovered Symmetry Breakfast about a year ago, when browsing food photographs (of course). The premise is that Micheal Zee posts gorgeous pictures of his own and his boyfriend’s breakfasts every day. The selling point? They are symmetrical. It started out as such a cute idea, and now it’s gone viral . The OCD freak in me can’t help but love this account, the dedication they must have to produce these every day and how unique it is. They even continue to post when they’re abroad!
BEST FOR SUGAR FIENDS
Edd Kimber (the boy who bakes) is one of my foodie heroes. I was even lucky enough to meet him and speak to him in 2013. A Great British Bake Off winner and author of three cookbooks, Edd’s instagram has developed a lot over the last few years. His food photography and design is outstanding now that he’s found his own voice as a writer and stylist. Decadent and sophisticated, Edd’s photographs are a joy to browse.
BEST FOR COELIACS
Rosie Norman’s gluten free instagram is incredibly personable and down to earth. Training to be a nutritionist and dietician, Rosie’s posts reflect her healthy lifestyle, whilst showing that gluten free doesn’t have to mean lettuce only!
BONUS WINNER FOR CUTENESS
We all love Lil Bub, Mooncake Cat, Whiskey the Bunny, Princess Monstertruck…
But I’ve recently discovered Mochi. Mochi is a chow chow living the high life in NYC. He is currently the wallpaper on my phone. I LOVE YOU MOCHI, DON’T EVER CHANGE.
…and of course you can follow Pocket Money Polishes on Instagram (@frostfromfire), and you can follow me too – @gourmetgeorgie for foodie things!
